Book Kils municipality

Our location in the southern part of Fryken has made the district a transport hub. Several railway lines come together here: the north-western main line crosses the Bergslagsbanan railway, with Fryksdalsbanan – “Sweden’s most beautiful railway” – heading northwards. The area is also home to the remains of Sweden's first public railway, opened in 1850, and now looked after by Frykstad Clara Elfs Jernvägs Sällskap railway preservation society.

Several waterways also meet here – the navigable channel from Lake Vänern via the Norsälven river to the Fryken lakes, between the Hyn and Visten waterways, links the Fryksdalen and Klarälvdalen valleys. Other stretches of water connect the Fryken lakes with Värmeln. A link with the past is provided by the nationally famous 100-year-old steamer Freja, which has been salvaged and is again plying the Fryken lakes.
