WELCOME TO HAMMARÖ – VÄRMLAND’S ARCHIPELAGO MUNICIPALITY

Hammarö municipality is on an island in Lake Vänern, only a few kilometers from the mainland. Wherever you are on Hammarö, you’re close to the water. We pursue a high quality of life for both residents and visitors. Since we are an archipelago municipality the marvelous natural environment is a resource for us. For example you can go swimming in any of the numerous Lake Vänern bays on the island, and the southern part of the island has wonderful places to take a relaxing walk. Afterward you can buy fresh or smoked freshwater fish at Lillängshamnen Smoked Fish, or buy something in one of the shops in the centre of Skoghall, which has just about everything you need. Or why not go for a bike ride on the island? Ride out to Hammarsudde, a district of rich cultural traditions, and have a picnic among the birch trees. If you’d rather try your luck at fishing, we offer trolling for salmon, zander and brown trout. Our unique location on Lake Vänern provides opportunities for wonderful outdoor experiences in summer and winter alike, so you are very welcome to visit Hammarö.
