Filipstad, the second oldest town in the region of Värmland, were granted its town privileges in 1611. It was founded by King Karl IX, whose son, Karl Filip, gave name to the town.
Mines, enchanted forests, foundries and steelworks from a by-gone area are ready to tell you their story. Mineral riches and monuments from our industrial past feature heavily in this area. Today the town has a population of 11.000 and is perhaps most closely associated with Wasa crispbread and the poet Nils Ferlin.
But in Filipstad-Långban to be more precise-two Swedish greats where born; the innovator John Ericsson and his brother Nils, whom had great success building canals and sluices both in Sweden and abroud.
